Home & Property Highlights
Huge down-sizing: Fantastic five-acre amateur radio location in rare Pend Oreille County, WA and DN18 grid square
- About 30 miles north of Spokane.
- Access to Wilderness Lake, which is a private lake, about 3000 feet long and 600 feet wide. It is stocked with bass and great for kayaking and canoeing. Access is for land owners and guests. Lake is about 1,000 ft. away.
- Property has a 40 x 30 foot, fully insulated metal shop, with a concrete floor. 200 amp power and fiber optic internet connection installed
- Living and radio operating area uses 40′ x 10′ of the shop area, with a full bathroom, small bedroom and large operating room, with two 6 foot racks. Living area double-insulated and heated easily to 70 degrees in the winter. No A/C needed, even in the summer heat. Bathroom has a septic tank installed, 500 gallon water tank and hot water heater, and is fully functional, but need some sheetrock and finishing.
- The remaining 40′ x 20′ area of the shop is also insulated with plenty of room for parking, lumber, antenna elements, tools, Kubota tractor, etc. It has 240v throughout the building for dust collection, welding, air compressor, amplifiers, whatever you need.
- Wooden shed outside, mainly used to store flammables away from building.
- Kubota RTV 500 with removable snow plow (for driveway) and winch for raising and lowering the towers(s).
- Minimum 5 acre lots in an HOA gated community. Inexpensive HOA (no restrictions on antennas)
- HOA and County maintain the road to the highway. HOA also manages the road, lake, fire hazards, etc. Residents keep an eye on who comes and goes. Other than that, you can do what you want (hunting and shooting is not recommended, but the National Forest borders the community.)
- Commercial power and fiber internet installed (very low latency for remote controlling radios). Property has its
own pug pole transformer. - Currently water is trucked in but a well has been approved by the county. EVERYTHING has been inspected and is to code.
Ham Radio Highlights
- Fantastic five-acre amateur radio location. Very low man-made noise, especially on low bands. I looked for over a year, all over the area for a perfect QTH.
- Located in Pend Oreille County, WA (rare) and DN18 grid square (also rare).
- No HOA restrictions on antennas (antennas can’t be seen from the road anyway).
- 30 x 40 foot insulated metal shop, with 200 amp power installed, fiber optic internet connection installed, full bathroom (septic tank installed), small bedroom, and large operating room, with two 6 foot racks.
- Antenna farm is on top of several granite peaks with a tilt-over tower on top.
- 30 foot tower has a homebrew W8JK two-element antenna, covering 40/30/20/17/15/12/10 meters. 40/30 is a simple dipole, 20-10 is two elements. While tower is 30 feet, due to elevation, the effective height is 100 feet. Tower tilts over, using a winch attached to the Kubota tractor.
- There is an 80 meter Bobtail Curtain, and a 160 mini curtain/endfire verticals. All wires supported by trees.
- There is a granite outcropping on the property that is waiting for another free-standing tower.
- Much more room available for additional towers.
- 500 ft. of very heavy open wire line (very low loss) connects the shack with the antennas.
- Custom remote control system provides operating from the building or world-wide. (radios, rotor, antenna switching, tuner selection local and remote control).
- Heavy 500 ft. extension cord provides both 240 and 120 V. at the antenna sites. It is setup to easily move it from live to grounded.
- Custom built low band directional RX antennas.
- See W7SX profile on QRZ for some photos.
